How and Why?
Quite simply, it’ a passion that has evolved from the headache of catering for several different forms of restricted diets!
I have a wheat intolerance and my two children have a kidney condition which demands a low salt diet. My mother is lactose intolerent I have coeliac friends and childrens’ friends with nut allergy. I have always tried my best to buy organic and additive & preservative free food too...(because I like a complicated life!).
The hassle of cooking/entertaining, the angst of social eating -picking at the ‘safe’ bits & being drawn into lengthy and embarrassing justifications. Worrying about what your children are eating when you aren’t with them. These are all par for the 'University of Dietary Lmitations' course!
My belief is that the choice of food available generally for anyone living a restricted diet is pretty shameful considering the head count - and the numbers are growing.
The exception of course, has been the small group of dedicated commercial producers who have cared enough to put their efforts into filling the gap and we thank and support them all the way as they have been a lifeline.
I guess few people make a hobby of the weekly food shop, but the sinking feeling as I headed out on each ‘expedition’ (strongest eyewear at the ready to peer at the labels!) just added to the ‘joy’ of the experience.
We are based in the West Country - South Hams in Devon -and this part of the world is home to the pick of small producers who are interested in quality rather than quantity, taking an enormous pride in what they do.
So I decided to explore the local farmers markets . The stunning colours, the lovely mouth watering smells! . It was all so lovely that there couldn't possibly be anything we could all eat. - Happily, I was so wrong! J
I spent time talking to the producers and they were really up for adapting their produce to a whole range of exclusion diets – another beauty of hand/home production! This may be the West Country but awareness is alive and kicking that 'special dietary requirements' is a niche market – so a win/win situation!
People, not machines. prepare these foods, giving that elusive chameleon factor; culinary artisans who are happy to put their creative skills into adapting their recipes to various dietary limitations.
We are so fortunate to have access to these gorgeous delicacies; but appreciate that many do not - so we decided it was time to share
and bring them to your doorstep – and NoAdded.co.uk was born!
We also work closely with other dedicated suppliers and producers who specifically develop the essential staple foods that help save us from cheating on our special diets, be they elimination, detection, medical, coeliac, dairy free, diabetic, contolled salt, low carb, weight loss etc etc.
Do we see £ signs appearing before your eyes? - Please, worry not! OK, they are not "pile’em high/sell ‘em, low’ with every-chemical-known-to-man-at-no-extra-charge" tags, but we hope you will be happily surprised to find top notch, fun food and individualism at such alluring prices.
Due to the diversity and unique characteristics of the products we offer, most items are despatched directly from the producers themselves. Although we appreciate you may prefer all your acquisitions to arrive in one package, for optimum freshness and quick delivery this has to be the best way to go.
The bonus is that you only have to type out your name, address etc, once -just one easy order form covers everything!
I really hope that our special foods add a new dimension to your eating and lifestyle too.
Our range is growing and evolving all the time so if you have any requests. suggestions, comments or ideas please contact us. We all need to pull together on this to make a difference…
...the acid test will be when we can all buy from a wide choice of healthy. tasty 'lunches on the hoof'. That will be the day that we know we have!
Warm wishes
Annie George
